Improving your Craft
This meeting is free and open to the public
Join us for
a workshop session for writers of all genres. Joyce Walters will discuss Stephen
King’s book On Writing. Ray Zimmerman will lead two activities for writers
wanting to structure their journaling experience and develop a journal as a
source of raw material useful for refinement into nonfiction, fiction, and poetic
works.
Joan
Hetzler grew up in Chattanooga and moved in her early 20s to
Atlanta where she worked as a secretary until attending Agnes
Scott College.She transferred to Emory University to major in Philosophy.
While working towards a Master's degree in Applied Philosophy
and writing technical manuals at a computer company, she developed
chemical sensitivities.
Joan
moved back to a log cabin on her mother's farm in North Georgia
and began taking an active role in environmental issues and
strengthening her Christian faith. In pursuit of health, she
eventually moved to St. Simons Island where she wrote poetry,
plays, and a nonfiction novel, and published two poetry chapbooks.
At the Southeastern Writer's Conference, she won awards in drama,
mystery, humor, nonfiction, and poetry, and her poetry has been
published in the Savannah Literary Journal, Coaststyle
Magazine, and, East Tennessee Literary Review.
Joan
also hosts The Writers Show, a monthly radio program
devoted to promoting writing and writers.It can be heard the first Sunday of each month at 1:00
