Michael Crumb writes poetry and cultural theory. He began writing
poems at seventeen and has been performing poems for twenty-five
years. He has a doctorate in modernist poetics from Louisiana
State University where he developed a literary theory that sorts
images into genre. His first published poetry book, Potshots,
as self-published Xerographic work was first printed in 1998
and withdrawn from print in 2000 after 100 copies were sold.
From Michael’s first poetry performance in Baton Rouge,
he has sought to bring poetry to a wider audience. This has
continued in Chattanooga where Michael has done a number of
performances at rock clubs, sometimes doing sets of poetry to
open for rock bands. Michael has also performed at the Uncanny
Evolution Gallery.
Michael is currently preparing two books of poems for publication.
One is called Animals Dream. It is a collection of
surreal lyrics involving animal subjects, appropriate for children.
Michael’s own children inspired some of the poems. His
other project is a revision of his first book, Potshots.
Michael’s literary theory, “Contact Phase: Forms
of Postmodern Culture” remains unpublished. He is grateful
to the people of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Taos, New Mexico, and
Baton Rouge, Louisiana for their enthusiastic support of his
poetry.
